Legal Learning Session: Deprivation of liberty safeguards: recent developments

10/10/2023 09:45 - 10:45

The Government’s decision not to implement Liberty Protection Safeguards for the foreseeable future means it is important to refocus on the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). The DoLS aim to provide vital human rights protection for adults in hospitals and care homes who lack the relevant capacity. There have been a number of recent court judgments – and other developments - which have clarified how DoLS should be implemented in practice.

Learning outcomes:

  • The meaning of deprivation of liberty in hospitals and care homes
  • The assessment process and what safeguards are available, including accessing the court
  • The relationship between Article 8 and deprivation of liberty

There is a fee to attend legal learning sessions at Community Care Live.
