The traditional remit of adult social care (ASC) occupational therapy (OTs) to enable access and independence via equipment and adaptations remains a crucial part of meeting adults’ needs. But achieving aspirations and potential requires a more diverse range of support and intervention.
Essex County Council adult social care OTs are encouraged to use their professional skills to place greater focus on sensory integration, independent living plans, and building the confidence and capabilities of carers. These skills complement the systemic practice and strengths-based approach across ASC and enhance the ability of the multidisciplinary teams.
