Unique and innovative occupational therapy practice in children’s social care

This workshop will share the innovative practice experience of two occupational therapists working in children and family contexts in Essex County Council. This workshop will provide the opportunity to hear more about the impact these initiatives are having on the lives of children, families and their carers.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand the role of occupational therapy in the leaving and aftercare and fostering and permanency team
  • To understand the impact childhood trauma has on young people's abilities to manage occupations
  • To understand the impact of occupational therapy input on improved placement stability for children and young people with disabilities
  • To consider the application of occupational therapy in unconventional settings to achieve positive and holistic outcomes for children and young people
