Deborah Barnett is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and is pivotal in shaping policies and programs that promote social justice and equality for all residents. With 15 years' experience in community engagement and public policy, she has a proven track record of implementing strategies that address systemic inequalities and enhance the representation of diverse voices within local government. Her work with community groups, stakeholders, and council members is driven by a belief in collaboration, creating initiatives that celebrate diversity and challenge discrimination.
As a former headteacher, school development manager, and education policy lead, she has developed and led numerous training programs focused on anti-racism, unconscious bias, and inclusive leadership. Her innovative approach to workforce and community engagement has resulted in programmes to empower marginalised communities and ensure equitable access to council services. Under her leadership, Hackney Council has made significant strides in creating a workplace culture that aspires to be anti-racist in organisational culture and practice and values inclusion and belonging.
