LEGAL LEARNING SESSION: The Mental Health Act: past, present and future

The long-awaited overhaul of the Mental Health Act is designed to empower patients and tackle racial disparities. This session will looks at why this reform is needed and what the proposals will mean in practice, as well as recent case law developments. Attend this session for:

  • Points for practice from the most recent court cases involving the MHA, including long-term section 17 leave, section 117 aftercare and ordinary residence, and the MCA interface.
  • An outline of the legislative changes that will be brought in by the proposed reform of the MHA.
  • The implications of reform for social workers and approved mental health professionals.
