This workshop will focus on a two-year pilot project on the statutory safe in accommodation duty set out in Part 4 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and how this has been approached through partnership working in Surrey.
Service provision gaps have been identified for adult males, LGBTQ+ and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities. This workshop will outline the challenges involved in setting up the Inclusion Project and what has been achieved through partnership working. It will touch on the barriers to inclusion for people who can’t access mainstream refuge as well as a brief look at how a trauma-informed approach works for supporting people who have experienced domestic abuse.
Learning outcomes:
Sonia Knight, domestic abuse programme manager, Surrey County Council
Sue Tapper, inclusion project manager, I Choose Freedom (formally Reigate and Banstead Women’s Aid)
