Writing every capacity assessment like it might be read by the Supreme Court

08 Oct 2025
Essex Theatre
Adults

Every capacity assessment written by a social worker might, one day, be read by a Supreme Court judge. Even if a case does not go that far, coroners, judges of the Family Court and Court of Protection read capacity assessments drafted by social workers as part of their day-to-day work. Correctly recording a capacity assessment isn't just a process issue but has a fundamental impact on people's rights and how they live their life.

Attend this session to:

  • Learn how to properly use case law in your mental capacity assessments
  • Better understand how to approach unusual or novel capacity assessments
  • Produce evidence that will be suitable for consideration by a court.
