Thinking under fire: Practical and psycho-social skills for leaders
This session will be an interactive workshop informed by psycho-social theory and the principles of relationship-based practice. It will provide social work managers with a reflective space to think about the impact of emotions in practice and what is needed to think more clearly in order to become more skilled with aspects of leadership practice. It will consider some of the “beneath the surface” aspects of finding the courage to manage conflict, complex risk, change, communication, case decision-making and providing containing support to teams.
Attend this session to:
• Appreciate the role of emotion in practice and what is needed to think more clearly
• Understand the relational domains of management skills and make sense of relational dynamics at work
• Consider the role of “containment” in practice and how this can help with clarity and taking up your authority as a leader
